Jan Woo & Jacob Gorchov

this week we have an adventure is cosmic new wave goth yoga salads and substance abuse.. and its always an adventure to find out if people are watching tv or something and who will the bartender be? any bets?

jan is part of that whole cosmic yoga vibes crew.. he is in some new band that got all pitchforked out and stuff.. called splash. i think i heard one song and it sounded like new edition on drugs. i heard he is a good dj. i never really saw him throw down.. but i have put on records with him a few ti...mes.. and yeah.. should be interesting. jan is always down for some action.. whatever that means.

jacob is shawn and katie's roommate.. that is how i know him. i didnt even know he was friends with jan.. but apparently they play together sometimes. i heard he gets records in the mail all the time and seems to know about obscure stuff i never heard of. i have no idea what he will play, but shawn say he is a pretty ok dj. and it will be fine.. so what the hell.. shawn even thinks he is gonna fall asleep at the bar. thats pretty cool too.

speculator and chupacabras will be around.
and hopefully we get a good bartender that can hang out so we dont have to go to other places after cause they will be closed too.

loreley bk 64 frost street.
free every thurs.

Steve Summers & Bookworms

this week.. steve summers and bookworms are gonna dj..

i know steve as jason so im gonna call him that. he makes alot of records and plays live alot and seems to be doing pretty well.. i really like the remix he did for professor genius, but its taking too long to come out so no one will notice.. but hopefully they do.. he is gonna dj.. i know he has alot of records laying around somewhere..

bookworms was on my stoop the other day. he is friends with my downstairs neighbor. it was weird to see him there.. he put out some freaky record on LIES that sounds like some dirty mpc i dont even know what.. you should check it out. he is gonna dj this time.

chupacabras has to go out of town unexpectedly to be with his family.. so its just me, speculator filling in the gaps.

loreley is 64 frost street.. and it starts at 10 pm and is free!

they got food (i finally got some schnizel last week and it was really good) and beer and stuff.. and sometimes the bar tender is a real jerk, but we have to remember he has a really long day serving douchebags with flip flops.. and they dont let the bartenders drink anymore.

Tonight Chupacabras & Speculator

hopefully you are still in party mode from the 4th of july.

this week is special, only the residents of fender bender, chupacabras and speculator will be sharing their musical finds.. new and old.. we promise to spend more than 10 min preparing our sets this week.. and try to pull out some good stuff..

growing up as a juvenile delinquent in texas, jeremy rodriguez aka chupacabras, was a big misfits fan. he was subliminally influenced by his fathers hot rod culture and skateboarding. his music knowledge was pretty broad before leaving san francisco in the late 90s for barcelona, but it was there that chupa began djing. at illegal bars and super clubs by night, and working at one of the best record stores in bcn by day (wah wah) jeremy amassed a great collection of records. finally after some crazy personal issues, he made his way to nyc to dj at fancy hotels and crappy bars that wont even give you 2 drink tickets. he also works at the thing on and off for 5 years or more.
here is mix and an interview in spanish just for fun

william burnett is speculator.. he has alot of records and runs wt records.. he also makes records as willie burns, grackle, galaxy toobin, smackulator, pg&s and more.. he is also a swimming teacher and works at a junk store called the thing.
here is a recent interview and mix

fender bender is every thurs at loreley and its FREE!
its a small club/bar/restr inside and a beergarden out. its pretty nice..

Entro Senestre (Live) and Rocket Sam

Tonight we have Entro Senestre playing live plus Dj's Rocket Sam and Speculator.

Entro played at the W.T. Records showcase last week in Detroit and apparently killed it. His new record is about to drop and it's a good one. Come see him for free while you can.

Rocket Sam is someone we've tried to get to come dj for the last few months but always has something goin on. Apparently Thursdays aren't for everyone.

Speculator will still be there, Chupacabras is outta town.

Dj Jaclyn Tonight

Oh, you work on Fridays? Not us. Jaclyn has been dj-ing as long as I can remember and can mix pretty dang well. She's played all over town and is a real " New Yorker". She plays all across the board musically, which is just like we like it. Come by say hi, dance, smoke cigarettes, whatever. Stop on by.

This week Chupacabras 5-6 hour set

So this week Chupacabras will be playing records with a 5-6 hour set. Sometimes there's so many records you wanted to play in a night or whatever, but tonight those records WILL be played. Soul 7"'s? Probably. Disco and Boogie? Perhaps, but regardless this is quite a few hours to stretch out musically. Expect to hear all types of music. Someone once said "There's only 2 types of music. Good and bad." Well tonight I rather spend more time in the "grey" area. Songs you're not quite sure about the first time around. Some songs you do like right away and others have to grow on you. Those usually become your favorites. Let's see what happens.

Lauri Soini + Beg To Differ this week!

So this week we have a special guest from Finland as well as some friends from right here. Speculator will be on the left coast for a few weeks working on his tan and sipping coctails by the pool while fighting off the paparazzii. I'll be holding down the fort in the meantime. Now a little bit about our guests...

Besides touring with Hannulelauri, Lauri Soini also runs events at two venues (Nolla and Adams) in Helsinki with past guests such as Soft Rocks, Tim Sweeney, In Flagranti, Matias Aguayo, Daniel Wang, Wolfram, Todd Terje, Woolfy, Hugo Capablanca, Ray Mang, Prince Language, My Cousin Roy, Jacques Renault, Baris K, Cosmo Vitelli, Andrew Weatherall, Hunee, Veronica Vasicka, Robag Wruhme, Trevor Jackson, Shit Robot, Joakim, Jennifer Cardini, Tiago, Nick Höppner, Rebolledo, Patrice Bäumel, Seuil, Ata (Robert Johnson), Mudd, Rune Lindbaek, Ivan Smagghe, Kim Ann Foxman, Chloé, Maurice Fulton, DJ Kaos, Headman, Serge Clone, Benoit & Sergio, Kelley Polar, Joakim, Kasper Bjorke, Superpitcher, Masomenos, Discodeine, Blawan, Roman Lindau, Alex Boman, Andy Butler etc.

Beg to Differ is a never-ending arm wrestling match of a musical marriage. Comprised of New Yorkers Roy Dank and Nick Chacona, the duo - both individually and together - has played the finest discotheques the world over, evangelizing their distinct brand of boom-chk to all comers. While Roy heads up cult label Wurst and Nick is a bonafide house music hero, together they form like a boogie-fied Voltron whose music has been championed by discerning DJs such as Holy Ghost!, Wolf + Lamb, Aeroplane, Mark E and Tim Sweeney to name but a few.

May 3rd JDH (Fixed)

This week we got a whole gang of Texans in the house.

Josh has been doing his Fixed party with Dave P all over for some years. His party has been in Miami, NY and he's played with the likes of Erol Alkan, 2 Many Dj's and Simian Mobile Disco. Come check him out in our neighborhood hangout Thursday night. Spec and Chupa will be there too as always. Maybe they'll serve chips and salsa instead of pretzels with mustard...

James Friedman and Mark Verbos (Live Acid Set)

Our old friend James has been busy with his label Throne of Blood for awhile now and has been dj-ing for quite some time. He's played all over and knows how to get the party goin. Let's see what he brings for us this night. Mark Verbos has been makin stuff for a long time and does some legendary live sets with a lot of Roland xox boxes (Tb 303, Tr 909, Tr 707, Mc 202). I haven't seen Mark in a long time and it'll be pretty fun to see him play live. Of course Dj's Chupacabras & Speculator will be there too.  We do this every Thursday and it's always free. Come out if you can go to work hungover on Friday!
